Laura Geller Makeup Review

Laura Geller Makeup Review: 5 Best Products I’ve Tried (2026)

Laura Geller Beauty has been around since 1997, but somehow, I did not try anything from the brand until late 2022. Considering how long Laura Geller has been part of the beauty industry, I am still surprised that none of the products ever appeared in one of my Ipsy Glam Bags or Boxycharm boxes!

After repeatedly seeing positive Laura Geller makeup reviews—especially for the baked foundation, Spackle primers, and marbleized blushes—I finally decided it was time to see what the brand was all about.

What initially caught my attention was Laura Geller’s baked makeup. The products begin as cream pigments that are baked on terracotta tiles in Italy for 24 hours. This creates powders that feel smoother and creamier than many traditional pressed powders. The brand is also known for easy-to-use makeup designed for mature skin, though you certainly do not need to be over 40 to enjoy the products!

I originally published this review in 2023 after spending several months testing the brand. Now that three years have passed, I wanted to revisit my recommendations, confirm that the products are still available, and see whether my original favorites still deserve their spots.

The good news is that most of them do! However, there are a few things you should know before ordering, especially when it comes to foundation shade matching and choosing the right formula for your skin type.

All product recommendations are independently selected based on my personal experience, testing, and honest opinions. Baked Balance-n-Brighten Color Correcting Foundation

Best for: Light-to-medium everyday coverage with a natural finish

Before discovering Laura Geller, I had never seriously considered using a baked powder foundation. I usually preferred liquid foundation and assumed a powder would look dry, heavy, or cakey on my skin.

The Baked Balance-n-Brighten Color Correcting Foundation completely changed my mind.

This foundation provides buildable light-to-medium coverage, which means it helps even out discoloration and soften the appearance of imperfections without completely covering your natural skin. It has a natural finish rather than an overly matte or noticeably luminous one.

What impressed me most was how weightless it felt. I honestly forgot I was wearing foundation. It did not give me the dry, powdery appearance I expected, and I appreciated that I could apply a light layer for an everyday look or build it in areas where I wanted more coverage.

The formula contains ingredients such as jojoba seed oil, green tea extract, vitamin E, and centella asiatica. The foundation has also been accepted by the National Rosacea Society and recognized by the National Psoriasis Foundation, although that does not guarantee that every individual skin type will react the same way.

What I Like

  • It feels lightweight on the skin.
  • The coverage is easy to build.
  • It gives the complexion a natural, even appearance.
  • It does not feel as heavy as many liquid foundations.
  • It is convenient for quick application and touch-ups.

What You Should Know

Shade matching is the most common concern I found while revisiting reviews of this foundation. Some users report that certain shades look darker or warmer once applied than they expected. One independent reviewer found that even the Fair shade appeared deeper on her skin than anticipated.

I would not automatically tell everyone to order one or two shades lighter because the marbleized pigments can look different depending on your undertone. Instead, look closely at the shade descriptions, use Laura Geller’s shade finder, and test the product in natural light before deciding whether the match is right.

This is also not a full-coverage foundation. If you want to completely cover acne, scars, dark spots, or significant discoloration, you may need concealer underneath or a fuller-coverage foundation.

How I Would Apply It

For lighter coverage, use a soft, fluffy brush and buff a small amount over the skin. For additional coverage, use a denser brush and press the product into the areas where you need more help instead of continuously sweeping it around.

Start with less than you think you need. It is much easier to add another layer than to remove too much powder.

Spackle Skin Perfecting Primer: Hydrate

Best for: Dry or mature skin that needs additional moisture before makeup

Laura Geller offers several versions of the Spackle primer, but Hydrate remains the best match for my skin.

The primer has a cream-to-gel texture and is designed to create a smoother base while adding moisture. Its current formula includes shea butter, jojoba seed oil, squalane, aloe vera, glycerin, and forms of hyaluronic acid.

I was impressed by how well it prepared my skin for foundation. It helped my makeup apply more evenly and gave my complexion a healthy, hydrated appearance without adding obvious shimmer.

One point from my original review still stands: although Laura Geller describes this as a hydrating primer, I personally prefer applying moisturizer underneath it. A moisturizing primer can support your skincare, but it may not replace a complete moisturizer for everyone.

Laura Geller currently recommends applying Spackle after moisturizer and sunscreen, allowing it to set for approximately one minute, and then continuing with foundation. That order also helps reduce the chance of the products pilling or clumping.

What I Like

  • It helps dry skin feel more comfortable under makeup.
  • It creates a smoother base for foundation.
  • It gives the skin a fresh, slightly dewy appearance.
  • A small amount spreads easily across the face.
  • It pairs especially well with powder foundation.

What You Should Know

This is a richer primer. If you have very oily or acne-prone skin, it may feel like more moisture than you need. The formula also contains shea butter, which some people prefer to avoid when they are prone to clogged pores.

Using too much can also work against you. A thin layer is enough. Applying a heavy coating may cause makeup to move around or feel overly slick.

For dry, normal, or mature skin, however, this remains one of the strongest products in the Laura Geller collection. Both Byrdie and Oprah Daily have also highlighted the primer for its ability to moisturize dry areas while helping makeup sit more evenly on the skin.

The Best of the Best Baked Face Palette

Best for: Travel, beginners, and simple everyday makeup routines

The Best of the Best Baked Face Palette was the product that officially began my Laura Geller journey.

It remains one of the easiest ways to try several of the brand’s most popular baked formulas without purchasing everything separately. The current palette includes three eyeshadows, two highlighters, one blush, and one bronzer. It also has a built-in mirror and printed application instructions.

My palette became a reliable travel companion during trips to Mexico and Japan because it gave me almost everything I needed in one place. Instead of packing several individual compacts, I had my eyeshadow, blush, bronzer, and highlighter together! The perfect complement was my Laura Geller Retractable Angled Kabuki Brush, which made applying everything while traveling quick and easy. We also featured that brush in our guide to the “11 Best Makeup Brushes and Sponges for a Flawless Finish“!

I loved how the colors create soft, polished looks rather than dramatic or extremely colorful makeup. That is part of what makes the palette so approachable. Everything coordinates well, and you do not have to spend much time figuring out which shades work together.

What I Like

  • It includes products for the eyes and complexion.
  • The neutral shades are easy to combine.
  • It reduces the number of products needed for travel.
  • The baked powders blend easily.
  • It is beginner-friendly without feeling boring.

What You Should Know

This palette will be most useful for someone who likes natural, warm, or neutral makeup. If you primarily wear bold eyeshadow colors or prefer cream products, it may not suit your routine.

The sections are also smaller than buying each product individually. You are paying for convenience and variety rather than receiving several full-sized products.

Even with those limitations, this remains one of my favorite introductions to Laura Geller. Byrdie’s makeup artist reviewer also selected it as one of the brand’s best products, particularly for people who are new to Laura Geller or want a more compact routine.

Baked Blush-n-Bronze Marbleized 2-in-1

Best for: Adding blush, warmth, and soft definition in one step

When I first tried the Baked Blush-n-Bronze Marbleized 2-in-1, it reminded me of one of my favorite blushes from Hourglass.

It creates a soft flush of color while adding some of the warmth you would normally get from bronzer. The marbleized pan combines several tones, allowing you to swirl everything together or concentrate your brush on a particular section of the compact.

Berry Bronze was my favorite shade when I originally tested the product because it created a warm, coral-toned effect on my skin. Laura Geller periodically updates its available shades, so I recommend checking the current shade descriptions rather than relying only on older swatches.

This blush-bronzer combination has impressive color payoff, but it is still easy to blend. I normally apply it with an angled Sigma blush brush, beginning with a small amount and gradually adding more.

The formula contains jojoba seed oil, green tea extract, and centella asiatica. It is intended to provide multidimensional color while remaining lightweight on the skin.

What I Like

  • It combines two complexion steps.
  • The color can be built from soft to more noticeable.
  • It gives the cheeks warmth without requiring a separate bronzer.
  • The texture feels smooth and velvety.
  • It works especially well for quick everyday makeup.

What You Should Know

Because each compact has a marbleized pattern, the balance of blush and bronzer can vary slightly. One application may pick up more pink, while another may pick up more bronze.

It is also pigmented, so use a light hand at first. Tap excess product from your brush before placing it on the cheeks, especially when trying a new shade.

I would recommend this most strongly to someone who enjoys warm, softly sculpted cheeks and wants to reduce the number of products used in their routine.

Baked Marbleized Highlighter in Prosecco

Best for: A soft, natural-looking glow without chunky glitter

When I originally wrote this article, one of my favorite Laura Geller products was the Baked Natural Glow Highlighter. I loved that it was not overly metallic or intense. Instead, it added a subtle radiance that looked beautiful during the day and was easy to wear in more professional settings.

Unfortunately, the original highlighter shades I reviewed are not currently available. Laura Geller now offers the Baked Marbleized Highlighter in Prosecco, which combines the tones of the brand’s French Vanilla and Portofino highlighters in one marbleized compact.

Although I have not personally tested the Prosecco version yet, it appears to be the closest current alternative to the original formula I enjoyed.

The shade combines soft cream and champagne tones to create a multidimensional glow. Like Laura Geller’s other baked products, it is baked for 24 hours and hand-finished in Italy. The formula is intended to provide subtle radiance without visible pieces of glitter, making it suitable for everyday makeup and mature skin.

I especially like the idea of having the two original highlighter tones blended together. French Vanilla provided a lighter, brighter effect, while Portofino added more warmth. Prosecco appears to sit between the two, making it easier to use across different areas of the face.

What Looks Promising

  • It combines the tones of French Vanilla and Portofino.
  • The finish is soft rather than intensely metallic.
  • It can be used on the eyes as well as the complexion.
  • The marbleized pigments create more dimension than one flat shade.
  • It stays true to the natural-looking makeup Laura Geller is known for.

What You Should Know

The Prosecco highlighter also appears to create a slightly more noticeable glow than the original French Vanilla shade. That may be a benefit if you felt the older formula was too subtle, but anyone who prefers an almost invisible highlight should begin with a very small amount.

Current customer reviews are largely positive, with users frequently mentioning the flattering color and its ability to work on the cheeks, eyes, and nose. However, it has considerably fewer reviews than the original Baked Natural Glow Highlighter, so it does not have the same long-term track record yet.

How I Would Apply It

Use a small highlighting brush and lightly sweep the powder across the tops of the cheekbones. You can also apply a smaller amount beneath the eyebrows, along the Cupid’s bow, and in the inner corners of the eyes.

Because the marbleized formula contains several tones, swirl your brush lightly across the entire compact before applying it. Start with one thin layer and add more only where you want additional brightness.

Honorable Mention: The Wonder Balm

One newer product that deserves an honorable mention and is on my radar is The Wonder Balm.

This balmy cheek formula adds sheer color, hydration, and glow. Unlike Laura Geller’s traditional baked powders, Wonder Balm has a creamier, more moisturizing texture.

An independent beauty writer who tested the formula praised its hydrating feel, natural glow, and ability to remain comfortable without feeling overly sticky. She also preferred the youthful finish of the balms over traditional powder blush and highlighter.

That makes Wonder Balm especially interesting for people with very dry skin or anyone who has moved away from powder complexion products.

I am not replacing one of my personally tested favorites with it yet because I believe products should be tested before being added to a definitive “best” list. However, it is currently one of the Laura Geller products I would be most interested in trying next.

Are Laura Geller Products Worth It?

Based on the products I have tried, Laura Geller is worth exploring if you prefer natural-looking makeup that is easy to apply and does not feel excessively heavy.

The brand is particularly strong in complexion products. The Baked Balance-n-Brighten Foundation remains the standout, while the Spackle Hydrate Primer is a strong companion for dry skin. The baked blushes, highlighters, and palettes are also excellent for people who want color that can be gradually built rather than immediately looking intense.

However, not every product will be right for every person. The foundation requires careful shade matching, the hydrating primer may be too rich for oily skin, and the highlighter is intentionally subtle.

Those are not necessarily flaws, but they are important details to understand before buying.

Which Laura Geller Product Should You Try First?

For most people, I would begin with the Baked Balance-n-Brighten Color Correcting Foundation because it best represents what makes Laura Geller different from many other makeup brands.

If you are nervous about choosing a foundation shade or want to sample several formulas at once, the Best of the Best Baked Face Palette is a less intimidating introduction.

For dry skin, I would start with the Spackle Skin Perfecting Primer: Hydrate. For someone who already has a foundation they love, the Baked Blush-n-Bronze is probably the easiest product to add to an existing routine.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Laura Geller makeup good for mature skin?

Many Laura Geller products are specifically created and marketed with mature skin in mind. The formulas generally focus on lightweight coverage, buildable color, hydration, and natural-looking finishes. However, results still depend on your skin type, preparation, application, and the specific product you select.

Is Baked Balance-n-Brighten a full-coverage foundation?

No. It provides buildable light-to-medium coverage. It can even out the complexion and soften the appearance of imperfections, but it is not designed to completely conceal everything.

Does Laura Geller foundation settle into wrinkles?

I did not find the Baked Balance-n-Brighten Foundation cakey or heavy during my testing. Applying moisturizer, using a small amount of primer, and building the foundation in thin layers can help prevent powder from collecting around fine lines.

Do you need a primer with Laura Geller Baked Foundation?

Primer is not mandatory, but it may help the foundation apply more evenly and last longer. People with dry skin may especially benefit from using moisturizer and a hydrating primer before applying baked foundation.

Is Laura Geller makeup only for women over 40?

No. Although the brand places a strong emphasis on representing and creating makeup for women over 40, the products can be used by adults of any age who enjoy natural, approachable makeup.

Final Thoughts on My Laura Geller Makeup Review

Revisiting this article three years later gave me an even greater appreciation for how well many of these products have held up.

The Baked Balance-n-Brighten Foundation, Spackle Hydrate Primer, Best of the Best Palette, and Baked Blush-n-Bronze still deserve their places on this list. My only significant update is replacing the original individual highlighter recommendation with the currently available Baked Natural Glow Highlighter Quad.

Laura Geller is not a brand I would recommend because every product is trendy or dramatic. I recommend it because the best formulas make makeup feel simple. They blend easily, create natural-looking results, and make it possible to complete a polished routine without using an overwhelming number of products.
